Information about the Ankara Card (EGO Card)

The cheapest way to use the transport system is to purchase an 'abonman' card. A monthly student 'abonman' card costs 350 TL and allows you to make an unlimited number of journeys.

A regular EGO card can be obtained from any SmartBanko machine or ticket counter at any station. However, to obtain a Student or Abonman card, you need the following four things:

- Passport and a photocopy
- One photograph
- A student certificate/document ('Öğrenci Belgesi'), which you can obtain from your university's Institute or Student Affairs Office, not TÖMER.
- İkamet (residence permit) / Yabancı Kimlik Numarası (the Turkish ID number given to you).

Take these items to a ticket office at the following stations:
- Kızılay
- Beşevler
- Dikimevi
- Beytepe (probably)

Ask them for a student card. You can say 'Abonman Kartı almak istiyorum'. They will check your documents, scan them and then return them to you.

If they ask for a residence permit certificate (ikamet kartı), just show them the Turkish ID number that was given to you by Türkiye Bursları. Sometimes the people at the station in Kızılay do not accept it, but you will have better luck if you go to the station in Beşevler or Dikimevi. Otherwise you will have to wait untill you get your residence permit certificate.
